Learn more about why a Will is so important

In the past, some people don’t write wills for a number of reasons. This may include superstition, thinking that your loved ones will know what to do, or feeling that nothing will happen to you (at least not so soon).

In Singapore, if you pass away without a will, your assets will be distributed in accordance to the Intestate Succession Act. Your estate will be inherited by your next-of-kin, in the percentage as stated in the act. This may not be what you intended, which is why writing a will is so important.

An Advance Medical Directive (AMD) is a legal document that you sign in advance to inform the doctor treating you, that you do not want any extraordinary life-sustaining treatment to be used to prolong your life, in the event you become terminally ill and unconscious.

Making an AMD is a voluntary decision. Anyone who is 21 years old and above, and who is not mentally disordered can make an AMD.

For more information on AMD, you can visit MOH website.
