The Singapore Government has introduced two schemes to help HDB owners who are planning for retirement to monetise their HDB flats.

These two monetisations options are the

  1. Silver Housing Bonus (SHB) Scheme
  2. Lease Buyback Scheme (LBS)

The main difference between the two options, is that SHB is designed for those who would like to move out from a bigger flat to a 3-room or smaller flat.

In comparison, the LBS is suitable for those who prefer to stay in their current flat, while selling the tail-end of their current lease to HDB.

Below is a comprehensive info-graphic extracted from a HDB brochure (information is accurate as at 1 January 2019) comparing the two monetisation options.

Please note that the left side represents the Silver Housing Bonus, while the right side represents the Lease Buyback Scheme.

If you are a HDB flat owner, you can consider utilising the Silver Housing Bonus or Lease Buyback Scheme as part of your retirement plan.
